I feel unaccomplished.

A little update: I've immediately and carefully decided to continue pursuing my career in aviation and out of nowhere, within 2 freakin days I already have an ojt, and I also decided to continue learning about forex market for an extra income. Thank you so much to everyone who gave me insights and advice!! It really helped me think more outside of the box and consider things that I haven't considered before!! Keep safe to all!
I am 22F, still don't have any first job and it kills me. So here's bit of my timetable: graduated march last year and spend months after reviewing for my board exam. Nov 2019, pumasa naman but I haven't planned anything forward from that point, because lowkey hoping my father would grant me his floating promise for me that if I could pass my board exam, pag-aaralin nya ako sa flight school wc is my biggest dream. He said yes..... but the money he had would first be used by my older sister (for her nz show money and stuff) so I was left waiting (but now not hoping). I decided to apply for a job pero jobs in our industry were first given to those with referrals.. or maybe I'm just not qualified enough.. So I end up studying again with a program aligned with my career pero boom covid naman. Bagsak industry. Tried to apply for online jobs pero they don't accept my application because of our slow internet connection na tinatry namin ipa-upgrade pero still waiting for 3months and counting na (is this a valid hardship lol?? :( )
Now I'm studying stock and forex market. I've finished most of the studying but now I can't help but to think of it more as, like, gambling and can't really tell if this could be a valid first real job where I could get income from kasi you would, most likely, also lose money because risks, right? I haven't even started trading real money yet because the funds will come from my father, and this, again, made me feel like I'm a burden (more like palamunin) in this house, like I'm 22?? Shouldn't I be working now..... I can't help but compare myself to my friends who works their asses off and earn 5 digits while here I am eating off of my parents' monies..
I'm really torn because I don't know if I should still hold on to my past industry which, as of the moment, is still trying to regain strength or move on and invest my time more on trading now and try to make it as my main source of income. Hoping for more insights. Thank you so much.

Analysis - Differences between Hugh Cook's online edition and the published version of The Wordsmiths and the Warguild (The Questing Hero, Hero Returns)

While reading the Wordsmiths and the Warguild on Hugh's website I noticed a number of spelling errors. Checking the printed book, they were fixed. Did Hugh upload his first manuscript?!
So I decided to do a text analysis to see what other differences there are. Maybe I'd find something interesting?
Some funny ones are Website says "Buttons" and the book says "Buttocks", twice. Also I'm sure Togura's lips were warm and yielding but they changed it to Day Suet.
Printed book is at Open Library. Online book is available at Hugh's Website.

___________________________________________________________________________
This unkind traveller once claimed that the king of Sung, the notable Skan Askander, was a derelict glutton with a monster for a son and a slug for a daughter. This was unkind to the daughter. While she was no great beauty, she was definitely not a slug. After all, slugs do not have arms and legs - and, besides, slugs do not grow to that size.
Nevertheless, most of the laws passed by the king were widely flouted, or obeyed only by accident. He decreed that everyone should wash their clothes and their bodies at least once in every lunar month; scarcely one person in a thousand obeyed. Let it also be known that, contrary to the traveller’s declaration, the amusements of the people were many. The principal pastimes were hunting, feuding, fighting and fornication. Drinking and gambling were also very popular. Certain hobbies, including fishing and rat-fighting, also had large followings, and, on occasion, the people found time for dancing, music and banqueting. The inhabitants of Sung also had their own unique cultural heritage, the intricacies of which were seldom appreciated by outsiders; it included lively games such as “Stone the Leper”, and detailed religious rituals such as those laid down for strangling unwanted children and disposing of aged relatives.
The disgruntled traveller tourist was none other than the renegade wizard of Drum, who lived on a high and barren island in the dangerous strait separating the continent of Argan from the Ravlish Lands. The wizard of Drum had passed through Sung frequently on his various peregrinations, and, for one reason or another, had never been very pleased with his reception.
The Devaluation, which ruined many people, was the direct result of swine fever. While the kingdom of Sung was at best a legal fiction, and the king of Sung little more than a handy butt for the jokes of most of his people, the currency issued by the king had for many years enjoyed great respect and stability.
The banquet was in full swing. Buoyant with drink and excitement, Day and Togura danced to the skirl of the skavamareen. In the clinch, he brushed against her soft breasts, which flushed out against her light woollen chemise. Her sly little fingers dared his hard-fleshed buttons buttocks, then stopped because: “Your father’s watching us.” “I love you,” said Togura.
His Her mouth was warm and yielding. His embrace savoured the curves of her back and her buttocks. Moths danced around the doorway lanterns. The night was cool but he was hot, his lust shafting hard within his trews. He smelt her hair, her skin, her perfume. He burped.
“Not so swell, my hearty,” said Cromarty, unshipping a knife.“Not so swell.” Togura was unarmed. He grabbed for a stick, but one of Cromarty’s scungers stepped on it.
“Cut him good, Crom!” said one.
Suddenly the old man swung his shepherd’s crook. The stout wooden staff shaft smashed Cromarty’s wrist. Quick as a flash, the old man demolished the surviving lantern. There were shouts, roars and cries of pain in the darkness. Togura hit the dirt
“Tog,” said Day uncertainly. “Was that you?” “Me,” admitted Togura, blushing in the darkness. “What the feck and fuckle did you think it was, girl?” said the ancient mariner.
The ilps was very large. It had seventy-nine teeth, shared between two mouths of generous dimensions. Five of the teeth were poisoned. It stank of rotten oranges. Its fingertips smoked with blue light.
A creaking bucket lift was bringing up gemstock ore from one of the veins which ran far underground.
After all, Slerma was only sixteen years old; there was scarcely time for her to have grown to the enormous monstrous size which she was alleged to have attained. She was probably just a little fat and sludgy.
He clapped his hands, and their meal was brought in. There were two or three plates apiece for Togura, the baron and Prick, a number of heavily laden platters for the king and his wife, and a large trough for Slerma.
It was impossible even to tell whether her vast, wallowing face had a jawbone. Seasick folds of flesh swayed, buckled and lurched as she ate. Technically, some of that flesh must have belonged to her face cheeks and some to her chin, but such distinctions vanished in the awesome slurry of fat which constituted her face.
Two streets from Dead Man’s Drop, Togura bought some roasted chestnuts from a street vendor, a crippled hag with a festering rupia despoiling the skin beneath her left eye. She tried to cheat him. They argued. He swore. She cursed him. They parted on bad terms, he with her chestnuts and she with his money, both convinced that they had got the worst of the bargain; rounding a corner, he kicked at a cat with ringworm, swore again, then stopped to eat.
And, at his command, Togura drifted off into silk-blosomed bosomed drug dreams which suckled him with nectar and fed him on honey-basted melody cats.
While Togura ate and slept, while the days shortened and the rains pounded down, the townspeople counted the cost of their orgiastic disaster session with the odex, and argued as to whether it was a blessing or a disaster.
“You may be right my son, you may be right,” said Brother Troop, and let him go dressed as he pleased.
Slerma was as huge as he had remembered - if anything, worse. A buxom girl could have been made from the flesh of each of her forearms, and a respectable whore from each of her thighs; her belly could have given birth to a regular conclave of washerwomen. Her fingers, as fat as sausages, looked deceptively soft and helpless; remembering the true strength of those her bone-crushing hands, Togura shuddered. To think that he had almost been married to this!
Togura looked up - and up - and up - and saw above him an octagon of day. This building had no roof. He was reminded of another place which had had no roof. Remembering the torture pit inside the stone beehive, he imagined that he smelt an intolerable stench of decay. Half-singing voices yakkered and laughed. A tentacle clutched for him.
Jon Arabin gave another order. And the weapons muqaddam grabbed Togura and started to drag him to the edge of the deck. “This is a joke, yes?” said Togura. The weapons muqaddam made no answer. “A joke? Understand?” said Togura desperately. “A joke?” They were now very close to the edge. “Draven!” screamed Togura. And started to kick, scratch, struggle and bite. It did him no good. He was hauled to the very edge. “Draven!” shouted Togura, sighting his friend at last. “Stop him!” “Sorry, boy,” said Draven, advancing at a casual saunter. “This isn’t my ship.
It waddled down the beach, its tail dragging across the shingle, then spread its wings – which , as it was a sea dragon, were water wings, not capable of flight - and plunged into the water. Swimming swiftly and gracefully through the lumbering seas, it rounded a headland and was lost from sight.
Then a voice roared: “Begenoth!” The quarrelling dragons instantly quailed down to silence. “Shavaunt!” shouted the voice. And the dragons turned and fled. Togura was alone. “Now then,” said the dragon commander, entering the courtyard. “What started all that off?”
“I still don’t see what’s funny,” said Togura. “I can’t be that bad.” The language barrier prevented anyone from enlightening him. Before he had left Sung, he had known, for For as long as he could remember, he had known that Galish was spoken everywhere, by everyone; it was the universal trading language, the lingua franca of all the world. He had done a lot of unlearning since then.
They practised warfare, of course, but mostly by way of sport and ritual. War helped release unhealthy aggressions, and helped bind the community together, particularly on those festive occasions when they had prisoners they could torture to death.
“If I had half a chance of getting anywhere,” said Togura, “then I’d go. As it is, I’m staying.” “Dosh,” said the headman, thrusting one of his broken wrists in the direction of the south. “What do you mean, dosh?” yelled Togura, angry now. “You”re crazy.” The answer was the same. “Dosh yourself!” said Togura. “Togura,” said the headman, his voice intimate, urging urgent, commanding. “Togura, dosh.” They could go on like this all day. It was very frustrating arguing with someone who didn’t speak your language.
Togura provided. He ate some more, feeding methodically. When he could eat no more, he decided it was time to go. To give his broken shinbone the smoothest possible ride, he was constrained to travel on his back. He started off, using his hands and his good leg. Raising his buttocks from the ground sent pains shooting along his right leg; his saddle-sick buttons buttocks would have to drag along in the dust.
“A woman of evil,” said Draven, with a shudder. “Her name was Ampadara. Yes, that was the name. She was the Yen Glass Ampadara. She was chief torturer for the Lord Emperor of Tameran, the man they call Khmar. She had me cut to pieces, starting with my testicles.” Togura at first had his doubts, but Draven backed up his tale with so much detail that it surely had to be true. Draven was eloquent about the terrors of the Collosnon Empire which dominated the continent of Tameran.
Draven, having gathered up half a dozen big, husky, capable-looking men, spoke to them swiftly, giving his orders. Then they dispersed, shouting their orders, press-ganging men as they went. Togura, Jakes and Draven, a three-man hunting pack, began to recruit a second echelon of group-leaders. Soon, Togura Draven was getting control.
At this point, Drake’s story - which was, incidentally, pure invention - was interrupted as Draven came strolling along. He was rattling some dice in his fist. “Hello there,” said Draven. “Care to roll for this evening’s rations?” “I hear your dice talking,” said Drake. “And I can already hear them telling lies. Don’t roll with him, friend Forester, for he’ll have you rolling for your spleen unless you’re careful.”
However, as only three people had caught fish, fourth prize was not awarded. Drake Draven also organised a tug-of-war, a rat-fighting competition and a knuckleskull league, knuckleskull being a pirate game which is played with cudgels, and tends to lead to bad headaches or worse.

Last Minute Mock Draft - Only 12 Hours Until the Draft!

With only 12 hours left until the draft, I present my final mock draft. This draft has been really fun to follow, and the discussions have been very interesting due to how polarizing some of these prospects are.
Anyway, I have pasted the mock draft below and included a link to the draft on my blog (it has no ads or monetization I'm just doing it as writing practice for now,) which has extra links to analysis.
https://prospectpreviews.com/mock-draft-4/
Pick 1 - Minnesota Timberwolves
LaMelo Ball
Position: PG/SG(/SF?)
Height: 6’7.25
Wingspan: 6’8-10
Weight: 185 lb
Age: 19
While there is a chance that LaMelo Ball falls on draft night, I don’t think the Wolves are going to be able to pass on him. While there are an abundance of question marks that swirl around him, I believe his passing, court vision and ballhandling abilities are too unique to ignore. On a team with two exceptional young scorers like KAT and DLo, Ball’s passing should allow him to fit in right away.
Under Gersson Rosas, the Timberwolves are trying to create a run-and-gun system that takes full advantage of Karl-Anthony-Towns’ ability to score inside and outside. Ball’s playmaking ability should ideally create scoring opportunities for both D’Angelo Russell and KAT. According to stats.nba.com, Russell made 39.1% of his catch and shoot 3 point opportunities, on 3.8 attempts per game. Playing alongside another playmaker like Ball could potentially elevate Russell’s scoring to the next level and take pressure off of his playmaking. However Ball is going to need to learn how to play off-ball by improving his spot up shooting and cutting. This will likely take time, and will likely lead to early growing pains.
Due to his height, I believe that LaMelo Ball can be developed into a positionless playmaker at point guard, shooting guard and small forward. While he will require more strength to defend the small forward in the long term, I believe this will be his ideal position in a team built around D’Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns.
Pick 2 - Golden State Warriors
James Wiseman
Position: C
Height: 7’0-7’1
Wingspan: 7’5
Weight: 240-251 lb
Age: 19
James Wiseman is one of the biggest question marks in the draft. From a physical point of view he is the prototypical centre at 7’+ with a 7’5 wingspan. However there are questions about how valuable a player with his skillset is in the modern NBA.
We unfortunately only got to watch James Wiseman play 3 games in the NCAA. In those games Wiseman looked like a player worthy of the number 1 pick.
Wiseman’s athleticism is reminiscent of JaVale McGee and Mitchell Robinson. He has the ability to become a high quality rim-protector, rebounder and efficient scorer at the rim. What makes Wiseman different to these other centers, is that he appears to have the potential to become a shooter and maybe even a playmaker. Wiseman has a soft touch on his shot and appears to be able to make jumpers in workouts. Wiseman also made 70.4% of his free throws in the NCAA, which while not amazing, is definitely a good starting point. If he is able to incorporate a jumper into his game he could be an extremely valuable player.
With Golden State losing their rim protectors in JaVale McGee and Kevin Durant from their championship team, Wiseman could be an important part of their team. Golden State would be in no rush to give Wiseman big minutes immediately with Kevon Looney already playing big center minutes. In Golden State’s system he would have a lot of room to operate in the paint. With Golden State’s coaching they could ideally be a great place for Wiseman to reach his star potential (assuming they don’t trade the pick of course).
Pick 3 - Charlotte Hornets
Anthony Edwards
Position: SG/SF
Height - 6’3-6’5
Wingspan - 6’9-7’0
Weight - 225 lb
Age - 19
The Charlotte Hornets are potentially in the best position of the NBA Draft. All three of the top picks of this year’s draft are very risky boom-or-bust prospects. Luckily for the Hornets they would benefit from any three of these young players on their roster, without having to risk looking stupid by taking the wrong one.
Charlotte would be absolutely thrilled to draft Anthony Edwards. Edwards has the potential to be an NBA superstar, he just needs time, teaching and patience. Edwards has the potential to be the best player in this draft class, I just think that he is a very long term prospect who will not yield dividends for his team for another 4-6 years. The Hornets have plenty of time as their roster is definitely not built to win now.
Edwards could slide in at either the shooting guard next to Devonte’ Graham, or the small forward with Graham and Terry Rozier at the guard spots. Edwards has a lot to learn, but in the right situation he could easily be the best player in this draft. If James Wiseman falls to the Hornets they should be very happy too as they are lacking their center of the future. LaMelo Ball would also be a good choice if available, however I don’t know if Michael Jordan is going to want to put up with LaVar Ball.
Pick 4 - Chicago Bulls
Tyrese Haliburton
Position: PG/SG
Height: 6’4-6’5
Wingspan: 6’7-7’0
Weight: 175 lb
Age: 20
Chicago will be very tempted by Deni Avdija, Onyeka Okongwu or Killian Hayes. However I believe that they will have more success with Tyrese Haliburton on their roster. While teams this high in the lottery usually shouldn’t take fit over talent, I am not convinced that there is much of a talent gap between Haliburton and these players, if there is even a gap at all. In fact Tyrese Haliburton is probably more NBA ready, even if he doesn’t appear to have franchise player potential.
Tyrese Haliburton would be a great pickup for almost any team in the lottery. His style of play could fit onto almost any roster. Tyrese Haliburton’s stats are very similar to Lonzo Ball’s at UCLA, with the exception that Haliburton made a high percentage of his free throws. If Haliburton is able to become a better on-ball playmaker and shot creator, he will be the better player.
Haliburton was elite in the NCAA on both sides of the floor. He was able to average 15.2 points per game and 6.5 assists with a usage rate of only 22.4%. This low-ish usage percentage should allow for him to thrive alongside Coby White and Zach LaVine. Billy Donovan could run a very similar lineup to his OKC lineup, with Haliburton at PG, White at SG, LaVine at SF (like how he ran Shai Gilgeous-Alexander at the 3), Lauri Markkanen at PF and Wendell Carter Jr at C. Haliburton's playmaking and passing abilities would lead to him creating a lot of shooting and fastbreak opportunities for this team. While his defense would help stop opposing point guards.
Pick 5 - Cleveland Cavaliers
Deni Avdija
Position: PF/SF
Height: 6’8-6’9
Wingspan: 6’8-6’10
Weight: 220 lb
Age: 19
Most rumors indicate that the Cavs are stuck in between selecting Obi Toppin and Deni Avdija. I personally would like to see them draft Avdija or Okongwu. Avdija is an interesting selection as he is young, and can be developed into either forward position. If the Cavs decide to build around Sexton and Garland, Avdija could fit in very well as a multi-positional defender and passer. If Sexton and Garland are not the future of the Cavaliers, Avdija would still likely fit into most situations. This versatility makes him a valuable draft pick up for the Cavs.
Many people either overrate or underrate his abilities. Avdija comes into the league as a tall combo forward. He brings great basketball IQ on both sides of the floor and plays with a very high level of effort. He is also a smart cutter and passer. However both his shooting and playmaking abilities can be very overrated. Avdija is a poor free throw shooter and streaky 3 point shooter. Poor free throw shooting often leads to bad perimeter shooting at the next level.
Many people also seem to believe that Avidja is going to be an NBA level playmaker. While I do think he will be a good secondary playmaker in the future, at the moment his ballhandling is lagging behind his court vision and passing ability. However the potential is there.
If Avdija can keep up his shooting improvement he displayed after the covid break, he just might become one of the best players in the draft. While I personally would like to see the Cavs draft Onyeka Okongwu, there are no credible reports to link him to the team. Avdija is a hit-or-miss prospect, if the Cavs can get the hit, Avdija can become the steal of the draft.
Pick 6 - Atlanta Hawks
Isaac Okoro
Position: SF/SG
Height: 6’4-6’6
Wingspan: 6’8-6’9
Weight: 225 lb
Age: 19
Okoro is the best available player for the Hawks. He fits both a positional need, and has the ceiling to justify being drafted this high. Okoro is also an underrated passer and ballhandler. I believe that there is a chance Okoro falls on draft night due to his lack of shooting, but if Avdija is off the board, I imagine it wouldn’t take too much to convince Atlanta to draft him.
Okoro brings excellent defense, a high basketball IQ, high motor, work ethic and physical driving ability. Many scouts and writers have described him as a ‘dog’, and with the tenacity he plays with, it is easy to see why.
Atlanta needs a boost on the defensive side of the floor. And with Okoro they would get that. They could potentially have a deadly trio of switch defense wings in Okoro, DeAndre Hunter and Cameron Reddish. Until Okoro is ready to contribute to the starting lineup, there would be plenty of minutes off of the bench for him. Okoro fits both the Hawks current needs, and the potential to be a great long term reward prospect also.
While Okoro was a mediocre free throw shooter and poor three point shooter, he has shown some good improvements on his form in his workout videos. One of the most important improvements to his form has been the added arc to his shot.
Pick 7 - Detroit Pistons
Killian Hayes
Position: SG/PG
Height: 6’4-6’5
Wingspan: 6’8
Weight: 216 lb
Age: 19
Hayes has the talent and potential to be a top 4 pick. However due to concerns with his overreliance on his left hand, and lack of a natural fit, I can see him falling to Detroit. Detroit needs to take the best player available with the highest ceiling, and that player is most likely Killian Hayes or Onyeka Okongwu in this mock draft.
Due to Detroit’s complete lack of playmaking, I have selected Killian Hayes for them. Hayes is an excellent passer with very high level court vision. Watching tape of him is like watching a shorter Luka Doncic at times. Hayes thrives in the pick and roll, and is a good shooter. Detroit does not appear capable of winning anytime soon, making a long term prospect like Killian Hayes make a lot of sense.
Hayes is in my top 5 on my big board. For the sake of his development I would like to see him being drafted by Detroit. With next year being a very strong draft, Hayes looks like he could compliment most players next year as well with his passing.
While Hayes is not in my opinion a great on-ball defender, I am a big fan of his defense off the ball. This will allow for him to become a very good playmaking 2 guard. It’s a shame that the Pistons have traded Bruce Brown, as I feel he would be a great fit next to Hayes.
Pick 8 - New York Knicks
Obi Toppin
Position: PF(/C?)
Height: 6’8-6’9
Wingspan: 7’2
Weight: 220 lb
Age: 22
Obi Toppin was the best player in college basketball this year. But that does not necessarily mean he will be the best NBA player. Toppin is a beast on the offensive side of the floor. He makes great decisions, passes and is an extremely effective driveslasheroller. Toppin also has displayed solid touch from the 3pt line. However he did only shoot around 70% from the free throw line, leaving questions to be raised about whether his jumper can translate to the next level.
Toppin’s big weakness is his defense. Toppin was a terrible defender at the college level despite his wingspan. Teams would target him to run pick and rolls against as it would often lead to easy baskets. Toppin is also incapable of switching onto quick wings. Toppin’s inability to read defenses is especially frustrating, as he is able to make such quick decisions on offense.
In this mock the Knicks will most likely be selecting between Toppin, Okongwu, Lewis Jr and Devin Vassell. With Okongwu currently lacking a jumper (I do believe in his shooting potential however), the Knicks will likely go for the homegrown player. On Zach Lowe’s podcast, Jonathan Givony said that he believes that the Knicks will be ‘dying to get Toppin’. For those that are unaware, Givony is arguably the best NBA draft analyst, making this a very reliable source. On top of that Toppin is a much better fit offensively next to Mitchell Robinson.
Pick 9 - Washington Wizards
Onyeka Okongwu
Position: C/PF
Height: 6’8-6’10
Wingspan: 7’1-7’3
Weight: 245 lb
Age: 19 (turning 20 in December)
Like Killian Hayes, Okongwu is in the top 5 on my big board. However unless Cleveland decides to draft him, or a team like the Celtics manages to trade up, I can see him falling to the Wizards. That being said I think that there is a relatively high chance that the Hawks or Cavs draft Okongwu and trade down for more picks. In this mock I am assuming that no teams trade any picks aside after the 17th November.
The Wizards should be absolutely ecstatic if this actually happens. Okongwu is another player who both fits the teams current needs, while being a great piece for their future. Okongwu is an incredibly smart defender who has exceptional defensive positioning. He is also capable of switching onto smaller players on defense in a similar vein to Bam Adebayo. Okongwu is also a very good rebounder.
One of the more exciting parts of Okongwu’s game is that he has shooting potential. With great touch around the rim, and a 72% free throw percentage, Okongwu looks like he could become a solid mid range shooter in the near future, and eventually even a 3 point shooter. While he is lacking Adebayo playmaking, this shooting touch and shot form should make up for it.
Pick 10 - Phoenix Suns
Aaron Nesmith
Position: SG/SF
Height: 6’6
Wingspan: 6’10
Weight: 213 lb
Age: 21
With the Suns trading for Chris Paul, they will need to put a larger focus on winning now. While I previously had the Suns drafting Tyrell Terry, they now need a more NBA ready player. They also need a wing who can take some of the minutes left behind by Kelly Oubre following the trade.
Suns GM James Jones is a big fan of shooting and floor spacing. Nesmith made 52.2% of his 3’s at Vanderbilt, and to back that up he made 82.5% of his free throws. While his ceiling is not as high as some prospects, I believe that his skills should translate almost immediately to the NBA. A wing who has the IQ and shooting of Nesmith is going to be needed in this (slightly) new look Suns.
Pick 11 - San Antonio Spurs
Patrick Williams
Position: SF/PF(/SG?)
Height: 6’7-6’8
Wingspan: 6’11-7’+
Weight: 225 lb
Age: 19
Patrick Williams is a perfect basketball blank canvas. He brings great size, defense, athleticism, intelligence and shooting touch. While he is not quite up to the skill level of some of the other players in the draft, he is very few, if any red flags. He is one of the youngest players in the draft, and has a ridiculously high ceiling. The perfect player for a Spurs rebuild.
Williams was a key contributor alongside Devin Vassell for Florida State’s defense. Williams’ versatility on defense is crucial as he can switch onto both the 2 and 4 from the 3. With the Spurs being known for their player development, Williams would be a perfect pick for them. Unfortunately for the Spurs there is still the chance that a team higher in the lottery reaches on him and buys into his sky high potential. However if the Spurs manage to select Williams, this would be his ideal landing spot for the sake of his development.
Pick 12 - Sacramento Kings
Devin Vassell
Position: SG/SF
Height: 6’7
Wingspan: 6’10-7’0
Weight: 194 lb
Age: 20
Vassell is a long, skinny defender. He was a key part of Florida State’s success this season. Many people have Vassell in their top 10, however in this mock I have him just slipping out. The big question about Devin Vassell is whether his jumpshot will translate to the NBA. Vassell shot over 41% from deep in both of his seasons in college. However he was only a 73.8% free throw shooter this season. While his jumpshot did look awkward at times, he was still an effective shot maker. Unfortunately there was a recent video that emerged online showing Vassell shooting with an even more awkward shot form. This has led to many fans becoming concerned over Vassell’s shot and given some PTSD-like flashbacks to Markelle Fultz’s shot form changes. Hopefully Vassell’s shot is looking better by the time he debuts in the NBA.
Following the trade of Bogdan Bogdanovic and Buddy Hield’s frustration with the team, the Kings are going to need a wing. Vassell is capable of playing shooting guard immediately, but will need to add strength to play the small forward more. If he can gain this strength, a future lineup of Fox, DiVincenzo and Vassell could be very promising.
Pick 13 - New Orleans Pelicans
Saddiq Bey
Position: SF/PF
Height: 6’7/6’8
Wingspan: 6’11
Weight: 216 lb
Age: 21
Saddiq Bey is a prototypical 3+D wing capable of playing both forwards and switching onto shooting guards in certain situations. This defensive versatility is very important in the modern NBA.
The Pelicans need depth at both forward positions. With two blooming young stars in Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, the Pelicans don’t need to draft a risky prospect. With the Pelicans picking up Eric Bledsoe and George Hill, their guard depth is secure for now also. Bey fits the role the Pelicans need filled and has the potential to be a 3+D sniper.
Pick 14 - Boston Celtics
Jalen Smith
Position: C/PF
Height: 6’9.25
Wingspan: 7’1-7’2
Weight: 225 lb
Jalen Smith is one of my favourite players in the draft. He has the potential to be a rim protector who can stretch the floor and rebound. The combination of all three of these attributes are rare. Previously Myles Turner looked like he could become this type of player, but he has never been able to improve his rebounding.
In the series against Miami, it became evident that Boston needed to improve their rebounding. Jalen Smith would allow for them to do this without having to give up the floor spacing they enjoy playing with.
Pick 15 - Orlando Magic
RJ Hampton
Position: SG/PG
Height: 6’4-6’6
Wingspan: 6’7
Weight: 185 lb
Hampton has the potential of a top 5 pick, however he has the basement of a G League player. He has the tools to possibly be an all star one day, but he is a very long term project. Hampton’s speed and height is unteachable at the guard position.
I had the opportunity to watch him play in person several times for the NZ Breakers. In the games where he was locked in and feeling confident and locked in, he looked like a future NBA player. However there were other games where he looked lost and unsure of what to do. Part of this was due to the Breakers trying to run him as a pass-first point guard, when he is at his best as a scoring 2-guard and secondary playmaker.
The Magic’s roster is very strange. Some of their players are veterans who are trying to win now (like Vucevic and Fournier), while other players are young long term projects like Mo Bamba, Markelle Fultz and Melvin Frazier. Hampton would be another player who could be added to this promising young core that develops off of the bench while the starters keep competing for the playoffs.
Pick 16 - Houston Rockets
Kira Lewis Jr
Position: PG
Height: 6’1.5 - barefoot
Wingspan: 6’5
Weight: 180 lb
Age: 19
Lewis is quite possibly the fastest player in the draft. He plays with lightning quick pace, but with pretty good control. Kira Lewis has been impressing teams with his workouts. Lewis appears to be a capable shooter (36.6%from deep) and playmaker (5.2 per game). However he is going to need to cut down his high turnover rate (3.5 per game).
With it looking likely that the Rockets are going to have to trade James Harden and Russell Westbrook, it would make sense for the team to draft a lead playmaker. Lewis is quite a raw point guard, but he has the potential to become a solid starter in the future.
Pick 17 - Minnesota Timberwolves
Tyler Bey
Position: PF/SF
Height: 6’6
Wingspan: 7’1.25
Weight: 216 lb
Age: 22
Tyler Bey is a little bit older than the other players drafted so for in this mock. However I believe this works in his favour. Bey will be expected to bring his patented high-energy defense and rebounding immediately. Bey plays defense like a veteran and is capable of defending the 4-3-2. His draft combine measurements seem suspiciously good, but I am not surprised by his great length. In his junior year at Colorado he averaged 9 rebounds per game. This likely reflects his length, athleticism, motor and great timing.
The Timberwolves will be looking for a small forward or power forward who can bolster their bench and potentially earn a starting role. Bey looks capable of playing both of these positions in the NBA. Bey shot over 40% from deep and is the reigning Pac-12 defensive player of the year (the previous player to win this award was Matisse Thybulle). What makes Bey stand out from other 3+D players is that he is an excellent rebounder. Bey has averaged 9 or more rebounds per game over the last two seasons.
Pick 18 - Dallas Mavericks
Tyrese Maxey
Position: SG/PG
Height: 6’2-6’3
Wingspan: 6’6-6’8
Weight: 198 lb
Age: 19 (turning 20 November 4th)
Maxey could go almost anywhere in the draft. He is oozing with potential, but lacking in size. While he did not put up great stats this year, he showed off his athleticism and high-energy motor. In my opinion Maxey would be at his best playing as an off-ball point guard. Next to a tall playmaker like Doncic, Maxey could thrive as a slasher on offense, and as an on-ball defender on defense.
I also believe that Maxey could develop into a good shooter in the long term. This is because of his 83.3% free throw percentage. Maxey could be potentially drafted higher or lower, he is one of the bigger question marks of the draft. However with recent workouts he appears to have been quite impressive.
Pick 19 - Brooklyn Nets
Tyrell Terry
Height: 6’1.5
Wingspan: 6’1.75
Weight: 174 lb
Age: 20
Terry put up a quietly good season at Stanford. He shot 41% from deep and 89% from the free throw line. He appears to be a point guard who is capable of playing both on and off the ball. Terry would be a good point guard in limited minutes immediately, but has the potential to become a key contributor to a playoff team in the future.
It appears that Brooklyn is going to have to give up a lot of assets to obtain James Harden. If this trade goes through, and this is one of the picks used, it would make sense to take a player with upside and trade value. If the trade does not go through, Terry would still be a good backup PG for Brooklyn.
Pick 20 - Miami Heat
Josh Green
Position: SG/SF
Height: 6’4.5
Wingspan: 6’10.25
Weight: 210 lb
Age: 20
Josh Green is one of the best defenders in the 2020 NBA draft. While I am not convinced his shooting will translate immediately, he brings great IQ on both sides of the ball. The Miami Heat love smart rookies that they can play immediately. Green has the defensive ability to take on both guard positions and the small forward. This defensive versatility will be very valuable on the Heat.
Green appears to be one of the more mature rookies in the draft. This also bodes well for the Heat. A veteran locker room like Miami should help him thrive and grow as a player. Green has also flashed playmaking abilities at times. And while his handle is going to need to get a lot tighter, Erik Spoelstra’s system thrives with multiple ballhandlers.
Pick 21 - Philadelphia 76ers
Desmond Bane
Position: SG/SF/PG
Height: 6’4-6’6
Wingspan: 6’4
Weight: 215 lb
Age: 22
Desmond Bane projects to be an NBA ready shooter, defender and passer. While he doesn’t appear to have too much upside, he would fit like a glove into Philadelphia’s system. Philly needs to surround their two centrepieces of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid with shooting and defense. Bane is not only a 3+D player though, he averaged 3.9 assists per game at TCU. This passing would be huge for the 76ers bench. Since Philadelphia let JJ Redick go, they have been missing an unselfish shot creator. Bane would be able to create for himself and others for this team.
Even if one of the Simmons/Embiid tandem is traded by next season, Bane’s all around game should still make him a great fit.
Pick 22 - Denver Nuggets
Theo Maledon
Position: PG/SG
Height: 6’4
Wingspan: 6’8
Weight: 174 lb
Age: 19
Theo Maledon is an interesting player. He does not appear to be overly athletic (but not bad either), or excel in any one area. Rather he appears to be a jack-of-all-trades type of player. He is a tall point guard who can also play at the 2. He does however possess a very high basketball IQ, and have a well rounded game. I have the Nuggets selecting him to develop as their 3rd string point guard who could ideally develop into their backup shooting guard over time. The Nuggets have proven to be quite good at developing players and their front office is not afraid to draft overseas projects.
In his rookie year on the Nuggets, Maledon would likely play minutes in the G-League. This would be a great way to develop him. Maledon would not likely be in the rotation immediately. Maledon has the potential to be a starter in the future, but most likely will be a very good backup. If any team is going to tap into his potential, it is Denver.
Pick 23 - Utah Jazz
Jaden McDaniels
Position: PF/SF
Height: 6’8 - 6’10
Wingspan: 7’0
Weight: 201 lb
Age: 20
Jaden McDaniels is a very raw prospect. However he has shown glimpses of great switch defense. He has also shown flashes of a strong perimeter game. However he is going to need to improve his strength and keep working on his jumper.
The Jazz are lacking in size at the small forward position, and have practically no power forwards on their roster. McDaniels could provide aid at both positions off the bench. The defense orientated coaching staff with Quin Snyder and co would hopefully be able to get the most out of his defensive talents immediately.
Pick 24 - New Orleans Pelicans
Aleksej Pokusevski
Position: PF/C
Height: 6’10 - 7’0
Wingspan: 7’3
Weight: 195 - 205 lb
Age: 18 (turning 19 in December)
Poku is a very unique prospect. He does not play at a very high level, however he is a 7 footer with a beautiful shooting stroke and passing that is rare for a player of his size. Physically he desperately needs to put on weight. However if he can gain strength and become a stronger finisher, he has the potential to be the steal of the draft.
With the Pelicans previously taking Saddiq Bey in my mock draft, I have them taking a raw prospect in the form of Poku later in the first round. If Poku is able to gain strength, he could be a great rim protector next to Zion Williamson. His ability to stretch the floor would make him even more valuable. Poku is a high-risk-high-reward type player, but with the 24th pick he would be worth it.
Pick 25 - OKC Thunder
Cole Anthony
Position: PG/SG
Height: 6’1 - 6’3
Wingspan: 6’3-6’4 ½
Weight: 175 lb
Age: 20
While Cole Anthony was one of the top players in high school, he struggled in the NCAA. He shot poor percentages and did not live up to the high expectations put in place for him. However this may partially be due to North Carolina’s system that does not benefit ball-dominant players.
Anthony is still an athletic point guard with good court vision and a streaky jumpshot. There is a chance that all the teams that pass on him will regret it in the near future. With the 25th pick in the draft, Anthony is a worthy gamble for the Thunder. While his basement is low, his ceiling is as high as most lottery picks in the draft, if not higher. With Chris Paul and Dennis Schroder both being shipped out, Cole Anthony would have plenty of minutes to develop in Oklahoma City.
Pick 26 - Boston Celtics
Malachi Flynn
Position: PG
Height: 6’2
Wingspan: 6’3
Weight: 185 lb
Age: 22
Malachi Flynn appears to be one of the most NBA ready point guards in the draft. He is a sharpshooting playmaker with a high basketball IQ. With the 26th pick the Celtics will either be looking for a player with relatively good trade value, or a player that could boost their depth at PG. In my opinion Flynn fits both of these billings. If the Celtics keep this pick, Flynn could be an upgrade over Tremont Waters and Carsen Edwards.
Pick 27 - New York Knicks
Payton Pritchard
Position: PG
Height: 6’0 - 6’2
Wingspan: 6’4.5
Weight: 206 lb
Age: 22
According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Payton Pritchard has fans in the New York front office. While I don’t know much about this source, I honestly would not be surprised if the Knicks took Pritchard at 27. Pritchard was the star player for a very strong Oregon team. He is a capable shooter, and surprisingly strong finisher.
While he does lack speed, he has rare strength and shooting ability at point guard. In some ways he even reminds me of Fred VanVleet.
Pick 28 - OKC Thunder
Precious Achiuwa
Position: PF/C/
Height: 6’7.5
Wingspan: 7’0.75
Weight: 225 lb
Age: 21
I am personally a big fan of Precious Achiuwa’s game, but as a 6’7.5 PF/C who can’t shoot, I can easily see him falling in the draft. Achiuwa could potentially fill a similar role to Montrezl Harrell. However Achiuwa is a much better rebounder than Harrell at the same age. If a team is willing to run Achiuwa as a small ball centre, I believe he can find success in the NBA. And if he ever develops a jump shot, he could be another steal in the draft.
With OKC looking to enter rebuilding, Achiuwa would be a worthy gamble of the 28th pick.
Pick 29 - Toronto Raptors
Cassius Winston
Position: PG
Height: 6’0.5
Wingspan: 6’6
Weight: 200 lb
Age: 22
Winston is a high IQ, high skill point guard. While he is not overly athletic, he brings an almost veteran level of toughness and skill immediately. With Fred VanVleet possibly leaving in free agency, The Raptors would do well to draft another backup point guard. Winston is a similar player to VanVleet in the sense where he is a very skilled player being overlooked due to his lack of size and athleticism.
Pick 30 - Boston Celtics
Leandro Bolmaro
Position: SF/SG
Height: 6’7
Wingspan: 6’8
Weight: 185 lb
Age: 20
Bolmaro is an interesting player. At Barcelona he has shown flashes of a very well rounded game. He looks to be a playmaking wing with a pretty well rounded game. While he does not have great length, he does play with intensity.
While I have personally not seen much of him playing, he is part of a very good development squad in Barcelona.
Boston is likely to try and trade their picks. If they are unable to trade up, Bolmaro makes a lot of sense as a player who can be stashed overseas, while having relatively high potential. He could have good trade value or be a future piece for the Celtics.

Scarab Slot is coming to Pussy888 slot 2021 ?! Check this review...

Online club goliaths Pussy888 are making a beeline for Egypt for their new game, the Scarab slot machine. Peruse our survey to find the most recent expansion to Pussy888s developing on the web portfolio. The game highlights free twists, stacked images, and it's new Wild Stays Charges Then Pays include. In this new Scarab online slot, you are compensated for finishing what has been started more than 10 twists. Make it to the furthest limit of a 10-turn run and you can see images transform into wilds. It's a top component that has moved over from Pussy888's territory based slots. Why visit a block 'n mortar slot club when you can appreciate this incredible reward highlight at home? This are no aliens to an Egyptian-themed slot or two. Be that as it may, how does the Scarab slots game contrast with exemplary titles, for example, Cleopatra? Perhaps this master survey can help us chose for the last time.

A Colorful Egyptian Theme on 5 Reels

At the Macau Gaming Show in late 2019, US betting goliath Pussy888 divulged a few new developments like improved game cupboards and smooth deliveries. Among this' new deliveries were two or three games utilizing a novel element called Wild Stays Charges Then Pays. Taboo Beauty and Scarab were uncovered as two of the new independent slot machines that were to utilize the most recent component. While Vegas players will have the option to appreciate Scarab slots activity in a block 'n mortar club soon, online gambling club speculators can likewise get their hands on it. From the start, it looks like Pussy888 may have another victor on their hands. The Scarab slots game is a vivid delivery that can be played on work area or versatile. The music is an enhancement for the soundtrack of games like Cleopatra, and the whole interface looks new and new. We'd go similarly as saying these are probably the best illustrations we've found in a slot for quite a while.

My Opinion about the Pinephone, Librem 5 and Software

Warning: This is a long post. The down and dirty summary is this: Right now there are a few Linux projects focusing on bringing open hardware, software, and a usable phone for all of us Linux enthusiasts with 3 being Pine64 and UBPorts and Purism. At this point Pine64 and UBPorts have developed a very close to finished products and are shipping a final device within weeks. Purism, on the other hand, has had more time yet still hasn't made much progress and their device is still in an Alpha state according to many reviews. This begs the question, why all of the blog posts and videos promoting this device as being nearly finished when it clearly isn't? Read on to see all of the evidence why it seems clear that Purism hasn't been up front with their customers.

Privacy, security, peace of mind. These are the things that most everyone wants in their life and especially from their technology. For years now we have all heard the phrase ‘you’re the product, not the consumer’ and this is somewhat true. “The Age of Surveillance Capitalism” by Shoshana Zuboff is a monster of a book but well worth the read. It lays out in great detail the end game for the surveillance capitalists, and it’s not pretty. Sensors in our clothing that tells the capitalists where we are and what we’re doing much like the accelerometers, magnetometers, gyroscopes in our mobile devices send signals to advertisers and other capitalists our movements and positions. These technologies will eventually be woven into our clothing, which will be an even greater privacy invasion, unless you just start walking around naked. These, and other means, with which surveillance capitalists will be created to take our personal data and monetize it on an ever increasing level and there are only two ways to keep this from happening. 1) Legislation to stop the collection at its source or 2) Stop using the technologies that allow this data collection to take place.
Many people opt for 2 including me. I love using open source and Linux and one major data collection device has been for years the smart phone. Facebook, Google, Apple, and countless advertisers and data brokers collect and/or buy our extracted information and sell it to advertisers through these devices.
One platform seeks to stop all of this: GNU/Linux and the free and open source community with the many cell phone projects by Purism, UBPorts, KDE, Pine64, and a few others. As of late, it seems that the two best contenders are the Pinephone and the Librem 5 and it seems clear to me (and most everyone else) that the Pinephone and Ubuntu Touch are the pair to beat at this moment in time.
There has been a lot of discouraging news out of Purism lately and many people are speculating about how open and honest the company has been with the public about the actual progress of their phone.
I’ve done a lot of thinking about this so I’m going to go over my own comparisons of these two companies and their phones along with the software and hardware progress of each.
Pine64 and Pinephone / UBPorts and Ubuntu Touch
The Pinephone developer edition (dubbed Braveheart) was completed and shipped to backers on January 17, 2020. The Ubuntu Touch edition of the phone, a close to, if not final version of the device, is scheduled to be shipped at the end of May 2020, barring any delays because of Covid-19.
Throughout the development cycle, Pine64 has provided numerous Twitter posts and YouTube videos. Through these platforms people can ask them questions or offer suggestions about the development of the phone. If you scroll through their Twitter feed you will find many videos and updates about the progress they are making on the Pinephone.

Since I’ll be talking about specs next I might as well include the Librem 5’s along side too, rather than keeping it in the next section. For reference you can check out https://tuxphones.com/yet-another-librem-5-and-pinephone-linux-smartphone-comparison/
Going through the specs and hardware I don’t really see a lot of major differences, other than storage space, with the Pinephone having 16GB and Librem having 32GB. But with both phones supporting SD cards up to 2TB in size this really doesn’t seem to matter to me.
The kill switches on both phones are implemented differently, and here is where I’d give the edge to Librem 5. The Librem 5’s kill switches are conveniently located on the side of the phone which makes them very easy to get to. In the Pinephone you have to remove the back cover and most likely use a tool to move the very tiny pins. While not convenient at least the functionality is there.
For my needs and in my opinion, I don’t need immediate access to kill switches because I’d likely keep the wifi off most of the time anyway, and with the Pinephone running straight up Linux I know that apps aren’t going to be relaying my location to any third parties. But if this is important to you, it will no doubt be a huge pain in the ass.
The memory is pretty much even, with the Librem 5 having 3GD of LPDD4 memory and Pinephone having 2GB of a bit slower LPDDR3 memory. The difference in daily usage I’d say is mostly negligible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5MFpuDTiJU
Another large difference will be the cameras that come with each. The Pinephone’s front facing camera is listed as 5MP while the Librem 5 will have 13 MP, which likely means the Librem 5 will have a much better camera. Unfortunately, no one has been able to use the camera on the Librem 5 to see just how good it is yet since no software is available to take pictures as of this writing.
Onto the software. I’ve been using Ubuntu Touch on a Nexus 5 for about a week. I’ve been trying to use it as my daily driver and so far it’s been working great. Better than I expected. But it is suffering from short battery life. If I use it moderately to heavy (with chats, texting, and web browsing with Tor) the battery will last about 5-7 hours. I’m hoping the Pinephone’s newer battery and further software tweaks will help the battery life. That is really the only discouraging thing I’m not very pleased with about this phone. There are a few software hiccups on occasion but the phone is highly usable. Sometimes an app stops responding so I close it and open it right back up and it works fine again. Sometimes the keyboard feels like it needs some tweaks but overall works very well.
Librem 5 and Purism
The Librem 5 development models were shipped at or around December 18, 2018 (https://puri.sm/posts/2018-devkits-are-shipping/https://www.slashgear.com/purism-librem-5-dev-kits-ship-bodes-well-for-linux-phone-20558700/) and on September 5, 2019 it was announced an iterative shipping schedule with each batch of phones being shipping over the coming months.
(https://puri.sm/posts/librem-5-shipping-announcement/) The only problem is that the phones never came after this announcement. It was later revealed that the first batch of phones were only given to employees to test because of some issues with them. (https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/11/the-librem-5-has-been-shipping-for-a-month-but-not-to-backers/) But this was never told to the customers. This first batch was called Aspen. When you go back to look at their original post linked above on the shipping batches it’s been edited to include in parenthesis next to the Aspen batch “(internal batch).” Huh??? This wasn’t there when this was first posted. (https://web.archive.org/web/20190905160222/https://puri.sm/posts/librem-5-shipping-announcement/)
Next to the Birtch batch in the revised shipping post it says “(delivered on time),” the same with Chestnut. It seems to me like Purism is trying to rewrite history. It was never announced that Aspen would be an “internal” batch at all.
And this is where the problems begin with Purism. When you read their blog posts they talk about all of the software and hardware progress they’re making but when you read the many reviews of those who have been able to get their hands on a device the reviews have been less than great:
https://www.techrepublic.com/article/librem-5-review-the-linux-based-smartphone-is-not-close-to-consumer-ready/
https://linuxreviews.org/Librem_5
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2020/01/librem-5-phone-hands-on-a-proof-of-concept-for-the-open-source-smartphone/
https://www.techradar.com/nz/reviews/librem-5
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/librem-5-review/
This last review has been getting quite a bit of buzz…
The reviewer sums up the device he got with,
“Like many others, I really want this phone to shape the future of smartphones and mobile technology. On this showing, it’s at least five years out of step. Purism’s good intentions are clear, but the Librem 5 is a far cry from the quality of its laptops. More worryingly for Purism, there’s a strong chance its efforts could be overshadowed by the PinePhone, another Linux project that is far more affordable.”
Remember how I mentioned that Purism’s problem was being up front with its customers? Well, these reviews cast a lot of doubt about the alleged progress Purism has made on the phone. With this latest review from Make Use Of it definitely seems Purism has much much work ahead of itself. And presumably this reviewer got a more recent batch of the Librem 5, which was supposed to have a lot of functionality.
And this is at its core the main gripe I have with Purism. I am one of the backers of the Librem 5 and I have been excited about this phone for a long time ever since reading about it a few years ago. After reading their blog posts on their progress and reading other sources it seemed like the project was definitely a go and it was safe for me to plop down $700 for this device. Unfortunately it looks like either the phone I will be getting won’t work very well or I won’t get one at all.
It’s been long suspected that Purism is in financial trouble and is merely blogging away trying to convince people who don’t know any better to part ways with hundreds of dollars in an attempt to gain more revenue and maybe – eventually - ship something to those who paid for the device.
This revealing review really puts all of these events into perspective. It is with the former CTO of Purism Zlatan Todoric. (https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Zlatan-Todoric-Interview)
From the interview:
“I saw that Reddit exploded around revolt inside Purism and a lot of my name in it - I was not part of that group as I already have left before that but yes, they raised concerns and they all got fired. Purism is a not in a good shape and it was already in bad internally at the time I left. One example is inflating the numbers of Librem One campaign which I think Alan Pope noticed and called them out.”
According to this person it seems that the issue is the CEO Todd:
“From there on we added sales person, support person, a sysadmin and started to look more serious while getting some traction with shipping. This was big deal, because Purism was almost two years behind shipping devices to most of customers and people were getting angry, totally understandable. We worked day and night but Todd's partner (the company in South San Francisco that assembles Librems and also is man in the middle for China were all parts get produced and then shipped to California) were being mostly silent to us. Even with this disadvantage we somehow managed in getting financial surplus for months so we added a wordsmith, a wizard with words to make our website more clear, less false and inline with our true nature (at least what we believed was). He also had this friend which I interviewed and he ended up doing the famous Coreboot port which brought big plus in PR for us. Our salaries started raising, we added couple of more people and things started to look good. We even talked to Todd and became Social Purpose Corporation. Yay the good times.
During this exact same time, Todd was mostly silent, hardly anyone would have contact with him but he was hiring and firing, mostly financial people, on weekly basis. So Purism at the time of Coreboot dev hire, was only built by people who I hired and myself. That was the first time that things felt smelly, but hey, we were developing great things here, the atmosphere was great and people were happy. We even started to gather and foster some community around us.
Around this time Todd started to get more engaged and started to micromanage people with a lot of meetings, a lot of talking on his side but they were and probably still are very one-sided and unrealistic. "We will announce this and that, we must maintain this growth and grow even bigger because we need investments etc" on which we pushed back regularly saying this things are not only unrealistic but also will harm our relations with public because we can't keep such promises. The end results was we were always trying to do damage control and things became stressful. Couple of more people joined but then it started to go down.
Todd talked about phone project, I did a year earlier research on it (with the help of community) and we came with possible hardware direction but I also laid out financial and time plans for such project. Entire group was on board with this (which was "no, we are not ready"), except Todd who just said that we are doing it in a month and we are starting one way or another that phone campaign.
This was very stressful time. Entire paychecks were cut during campaign for several people (including me, though later repaid us and kept promises on bonuses) and the campaign was going bad (as most of us predict) but then [Klumpp] and I talked about getting KDE community involved as they had Plasma Mobile which was pragmatic way to look at as phone OS base and Todd agreed that we contact them and make deal with them. There needs to be noted that Todd was for Plasma Mobile at that time, but then maybe and then seemingly not in the end. Anyway, this was a good decision and we gained traction, and on wings of that Todd went getting more PR momentum with GNOME, later also Matrix and Monero. THE MOAR THE BETTER! :)
I did ask several times how he got to that specific number ($1.5mil bucks for phone project) and that we can do it in such short time. There was never a single answer that made sense and only one answer actually ever "it will be $300 per device and some company said they would do it even if we hit only 5000 devices". You need to realize this was before we even knew what materials we will use, how the phone will look and so on. So vapor all the way. Counting the investments and that it is already almost a year behind the schedule, I hate to say it really but "I was right". I am truly sad with all this.
The campaign ended inside the goal, I gave up my bonus to be split between two employees with lowest salaries and we got people to create a phone team. From here on, there was basically two Purism groups, the old ones with me and the phone group who had almost no interactions with us and this was done on purpose. Things became more stressful on daily basis and tensions started to rise up...Coreboot developer left and in next week or two they were changing even more the contracts and the pressure was higher and higher (my salary was halved already for half year as well to put more pressure) so I made to myself clear - while I really do my best to help phone project, I very much disagree with it on many levels and the stress was just piling on all sides (I was basically working 18 hours a day for almost 3 years to make Purism what it is) so I gave my resignation.”
This seems to be the exact same pattern. Todd just jumps into things without thinking about or planning anything and then he just “blogs into oblivion” with – essentially - propaganda:
“Q: What are your views on how the Librem 5 has come about as of the current "Aspen" batch with the information that is publicly available?
A: The information from Purism is just bonkers regarding this project. Todd's tactic is too just blog into oblivion when you are not ready for something so you put spotlight somewhere else. The phone is not remotely ready, it will have proprietary blobs (otherwise it will not be ready for another decade) but, maybe this will be weird to some, I still have hopes that hardware wise it will be okayish maybe next year. The true questions is, will there be Purism next year. Regarding software, I am a GNOME users, but going GTK is just wrong decision, it is not on pair with Qt in this space and how Purism ended choosing this is even more sad story but for some other day. So much mixed feelings here to be honest but I will let users to decide what they want to gamble on.”
“Q: What were some of the biggest issues being the "under-dog" organization in the competitive laptop/hardware space?
A: Not having leverage in China. Quantities matter there and getting only dozen or couple of hundred orders per month doesn't really help. That said, the Librems are heavily overpriced but that is because Purism seemingly never tried to get better deal and the South San Francisco partner abused this so that is why Purism Librems are double the price they should be. I believe that if we had more realistic prices, it would be much better for Purism not only financially but also more talking about it, more of it in wild which in turn means much more orders, more happy customers etc. The innovation is not really that hard in this space because big players don't try to really innovate as they have strong positions, so it wouldn't be that hard to be good or better then most of big players even, but quantity leverage is hard to pass by.”
When confronted with these facts Purism fanboys spam critics and make the most absurd arguments and excuses. It’s really interesting to watch the psychology of it all. It’s like sports teams or religion. They’ve staked their position and they’re not budging even if their arguments are contradictory and are not in line with the facts.
Take one prominent Purism fanboy who I’ve seen reply to many criticisms of Purism and Librem 5 on the YouTube page of that Make Use Of video review (https://youtu.be/NV0RnWorPpQ) and many, many comments on Reddit. His own review of the Librem 5 and Pinephone can be found here: https://amosbbatto.wordpress.com/2019/12/01/decide-pinephone-vs-librem-5/
His review is what inspired me to write mine.
One of the myths that seems to be continually repeated about the Pinephone is that it’s not as open as the Librem 5, but isn’t true. For example.
Amos writes,
“There is also no way to separately cut the circuit to the GNSS while using the cellular modem, so the proprietary firmware for the modem potentially has access to geolocation data. The Pinephone will likely be more secure than 99% of Android phones on the market, but if security and privacy is your highest priority, then the Librem 5 is probably the phone that you want to buy.”
If you read Pine64’s blog on the openness of their device they state
“The LTE modem on the PinePhone is a ‘black box’, and runs its own Linux system internally. This includes all the proprietary modules (blobs) needed to run the actual cellular radios. However, this system is almost entirely isolated from the main system running on the A64 SoC. The only data contacts between A64 and modem are USB connection for data and I2S connection for audio. All data going in or out of the modem must go over these connections.”
To further illustrate the mindless fanboyishness (is that even a word?) of many in the Librem camp someone named William Karlsson made the comment: “Another reason to pick librem is simply because pine has only community support. In other words, no support”
I’m sorry but my first thought is: what the hell?! What is this person talking about? Linux and open source is ALL ABOUT COMMUNITY and that community HELPING ONE ANOTHER! If you want to look at how absurd this comment is just think about this. UBPorts is a community effort as is the Pinephone. Purism doesn’t seem to engage with the community nearly as much… and look at the progress of both by comparison! I’ll tell you right now I’ve gotten more help from the Linux community within the 5 years I’ve been using Linux with the 15 years that I was using Windows. I even had a tech support guy hang up on me when I only asked him a simple question about my Windows computer! The Linux community is by and large a wonderful and helpful bunch.
I’m confused by Amos’s comment about software development between the Librem 5 and other Linux on phone projects:
“The PinePhone will offer the choice of many operating systems and interfaces, since it works with many different communities to port their software to the device….One of the goals of PINE64 is to be a “community platform” that works with open source communities to provide hardware for their software projects….
The upside of this approach is that PINE64 doesn’t have to develop the software, so it can save on the cost of developing the phone and it can pass those savings onto consumers. The downside to this approach is that PINE64 doesn’t have as many programmers on staff as Purism to resolve hard software bugs and provide the same kind of customization and polish to its software.
On the other hand, UBports, KDE Plasma Mobile and the Android Open Source Project used by Replicant already have very good interfaces, whereas Purism is having to create its mobile interface for Wayland + GTK from scratch. In the short term, the software that Purism is developing in Phosh, Phoc, libhandy, Squeekboard, Chats, Calls, etc. probably will be cruder and require more work than the software available on the PinePhone. However, in the long term, we can expect the software to be better customized for the Librem 5 than for the PinePhone.”
Amos makes it sound as if the reason Purism’s Librem 5 costs so much is because of the hard work being done on the software front, but as the interview with Zlatan Todoric noted it was the lack of planning that caused the Librem 5’s to cost “double the price they should be.”
Amos writes:
“On a practical level, it can be argued that there isn’t much difference between the PinePhone which only has one binary blob for the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth in the /lib/firmware directory, and the Librem 5 which has one binary blob for the DDR PHY stored in a separate memory chip. However, Purism is going out and finding hardware manufacturers that are willing to work with Purism so their components can run on free software.”
No, there isn’t much difference at all between the Librem 5 and Pinephone regarding the openness of the hardware. They both use blobs for the modem, however, it looks like Purism got around to getting open hardware for their Bluetooth and Wifi.
In this next section Amos contradicts himself:
“Purism has received a lot of criticism from the community for not being transparent. Purism has opened itself up to this criticism because it says “we have decided to bring our community and customers along with us for the Librem 5 journey, and have been transparent about our progress from the beginning.” Purism is more transparent than most other hardware companies. Purism employees regularly answer questions on the company’s forum and the ongoing work can be checked by going to source.puri.sm and by readings its public bug reports. Purism posts monthly updates about its upstream commits to the Linux kernel, wlroots, GTK and GNOME applications. The schematics files for the Dev Kit can be downloaded and opened in KiCAD. It is easy to keep tabs on Purism’s work by downloading its images for the Librem 5 and running them on your PC in Qemu to check its progress in the software.
However, Purism hasn’t always been very transparent about giving its backers a realistic timeline when the phone will be ready and informing them about the current problems in the phone. Purism was heavily criticized online when it posted on October 16 that its Aspen batch of the Librem 5 was shipping and “in the wild”, but nobody in the community received the phone. Six days later, Purism tooted on October 22 that it had only sent the Aspen batch to its employees and people affiliated with the company due to the bugs that it had encountered. I frankly think that the critics on Reddit’s Purism are blowing this incident wildly out of proportion with their accusations that Purism was deliberately trying to deceive to them. Nonetheless, Purism does deserve a fair amount of criticism for leading many of its backers to believe that the phone would be ready in Q3 of 2019, when it knew that the phone wouldn’t be ready to ship to the general public until Q2 of 2020.”
First he tells you that Purism “has opened itself up to this criticism because it says ‘we have decided to bring our community and customers along with us for the Librem 5 journey, and have been transparent about our progress from the beginning.’ Purism is more transparent than most other hardware companies.”
But then in the next paragraph explains how Purism “hasn’t always been very transparent about giving its backers a realistic timeline when the phone will be ready and informing them about the current problems in the phone.”
Well, which is it? Have they been super open, taking their customers on this “journey,” telling them everything that’s going on with the development with the phone? No, obviously not, and Amos even admits as such! What the….???
Take a look at Purism’s blog posts, their YouTube channel, and Twitter. A lot of what you see are pleas to buy their phone (which doesn’t seem to be nearly ready to be used by anyone yet) or you get puff pieces that show you a few seconds of the phone in action without really showing it to you. It’s like a magician’s trick. Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzFLygkwWXM
But if you look at all of the reviews of the software and hardware they all will tell you that this is pretty much in an Alpha state at the moment, but by just reading what Pursm tells you you’ll never know that. That’s deceptive. And Purism has been deceptive from the beginning. It was from reading their blogs about their progress that made me want to put so much money down for an open phone that I have wanted so badly for so long. Unfortunately it looks like either it won’t happen or it will but not for a lot longer than Purism tells its customers. I finally decided to ask for a refund once it seemed clear that the phone wasn’t going to be ready when they said. I figured I could buy the phone again once it was completely finished at a later date. But I was refused a refund based on what sounds like nonsense about my order needing to be ready to ship before I can get a refund.
I remember reading that their refund policy stated that they will issue full refunds for any order not yet shipped. It said that on their website, but they have since changed it.: https://web.archive.org/web/20200104172759/https://puri.sm/policies/
Return policy
  1. If, for any reason, you want to cancel your order before it was shipped, we will issue a full refund.
  2. If there is a defective hardware component, we’ll send you a replacement part or a new product unit free of charge (see Warranty #2 and #3).
  3. If you want to return a product that doesn’t have any hardware issues, we’ll charge a 10% restocking fee. We accept these returns within 30 days of delivery
(dated January 4, 2020)
Their new policy states:
Return policy
  1. If, for any reason, you want to cancel your order before it was shipped, we will issue a full refund.
  2. If you want to cancel an order for products that are in the process of crowdfunding or pre-order, we will issue a full refund once the crowdfunding/pre-order of the product is completed and all pre-orders are shipped.
  3. If there is a defective hardware component, we will send you a replacement part or a new product unit free of charge (see Warranty #2 and #3).
Many people are wondering if they are short on cash and don’t have the ability right now to offer refunds so they are “closing the gates” so to speak because I have seen on Reddit others having the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/Purism/comments/fgvvsn/purism_is_now_refusing_to_issue_librem_5_preorde
In the following link (https://www.reddit.com/Purism/comments/gbc4fi/risking_your_privacy_is_more_fun_than_the_librem_5/) Amos pretty much spams the thread giving some absurd excuse about batches when the Make Use of Librem 5 review is discussed:
“This reviewer seems to be totally unaware that he is reviewing the Chestnut development batch, and the general public will be getting the Evergreen batch which isn't scheduled to start shipping until mid-August. It is ridiculous to do a review of a development version of a phone as if it is the final product, which is what this reviewer did.”
I’m sorry, but Purism has been working on this phone for over a year and during that time they said that each batch would get closer and closer to a finished device but there doesn’t seem to be much improvement at all. The next major batch due out is supposed to be the Dogwood batch and then Evergreen, the final finished version of the device. But with the issues they are having how can they possibly have Evergreen ready when they say? I highly doubt even their pushed back date of mid-August it will be ready. In Purim’s original blog post about the improvements of each batch they said that Chestnut would have “Birch + final setup, improved web browsing, improved power management.” With Dogwood: “Chestnut + core apps improved, additional applications, refined graphical PureOS Store.”
This is yet to be seen on any device. More applications? I haven’t seen any, other than the standard ones for the phone, like calls, texts, browsing, etc. Where are the improvements that are said to be seen in each batch?
I know I haven’t gone easy on Purism. I know that there are a lot of hard working people earnestly working on this device and are doing their best to get it ready for the Linux community, but in all honesty they are just shooting themselves in the foot sending out these prototype phones to be reviewed, when they say in their press reports about how much progress they’re making. It just doesn’t add up. And that frustrates me. I sincerely want Purism to succeed with the Librem 5 but it frustrates me to no end with the continuous deceptive behavior of this company.
Amos says:
“Purism gets criticized in part because it sets very ambitious goals, and then can’t meet those goals in the time frame that it has set with the resources that it has. Because the company isn’t always forthcoming when it can’t meet its deadlines, it gets a lot of public criticism. As a programmer, I am amazed by what Purism has managed to do with such a small development team, but the scope of what the company is trying to do and its lack of experience make delays inevitable. The fundamental question to ask is whether you agree with the company’s mission and have the luxury of helping to finance that mission.”
Purism should rightly be criticized for it’s deceptive marketing and not being fully open as they should be given their status as a SPC. Plus their very name: Purism. Their actions betray every principle that they stand for. And as paying customers its our right and duty to hold them accountable. It shouldn't be any other way. What astounds me are fan boys like Amos here, who continually defend this company for lying to their customers and what they are paying for. That’s disgusting.
I know and totally understand Amos’s and everyone who wants Purism to succeed. I want them to succeed and have a great product. But I also want them to be up front and honest with their paying customers. After all, if it weren’t for us they would have gone under a long time ago…. And yet despite all that loyalty how are their customers treated? Think about that!
There is nothing wrong with coming clean and letting everyone know what problems there are. The delays aren’t the problem. I and everyone else just want Purism to be up front with us. That’s all. And as a self proclaimed Social Purpose Corporation one would think that would be a requirement.
I am very much looking forward to getting my Linux phone, the Pinephone, here in a few months. Only time will tell if Purism will deliver and the final quality of the device. I am rooting for them, but I won’t be giving any more money to them until I see a totally finished product.

Internet Gambling.

Can you imagine being able to place a bet with just a press of a button? Can you imagine playing and betting as long as you want?

Can you imagine gambling from the comfort of your own home?

We know for a fact that gambling is risky business, and unrestrained gambling is just asking for trouble. Compulsive gamblers already have a hard time restraining themselves from the call of casinos and bookies, and now Internet gambling just takes the ante a step further.

With Internet gambling, you don't need hard cash. Everything that is online is so easy to access. Play Baccarat, Blackjack, Craps, Keno, Roulette or Slots. Play all day, all night.
Before the 1990s, gamblers who wanted to place a casino or sports type bet in the United States basically had two choices: they could travel to a legitimate brick-and-mortar gaming establishment or place an illegal wager through a bookie. However, with the emergence of the Internet in the mid-1990s, a new form of gambling appeared; Internet gambling through gaming casinos and sports wagering. Internet gambling can take place on any electronic device that offers Internet access anywhere on the globe.

Internet gambling makes payment options for gambling individuals easy. They can just choose from several types of payment options other than credit cards. These include:

VISA and MasterCard cards: These cards are tied directly to the cardholders bank account. Funds for all transactions are deducted directly from the cardholders bank account, but cardholders can make credit card-type transactions that do not require a personal identification number.

Private-label debit cards: These cards are similar to check cards above but are issued by private companies rather than credit card associations.

On-line payment providers: These companies send and receive funds electronically for such uses as on-line auctions and purchases.

Wire transfers: Some Internet gambling sites promote this method of payment, which allows Internet gambling customers to wire money directly from a bank account to the site.

ìE-cashî or digital cash: It is a digital representation of real money that can be placed on a computer hard drive, smart card and other devices with memory. It can be purchased from an authorised provider.

Internet gambling sites also offer money orders; travellers checks; bank drafts; cashiers, certified, and personal checks; and a number of other electronic banking systems or processors as payment options. With Internet gambling's easy payment options, even a non-gambler would be tempted to try.

Statistics also show that Internet gambling has nearly doubled every year since 1997 ñ in 2001 it exceeded $2 billion. It also boasts 110 sport-related Internet gambling sites.

According to the American Psychological Association, Internet gambling could be just as addictive as alcohol and drugs.

This is a confession from quoted from The Gambling Problem Talking Point website:

î... I am addicted to online poker, not to mention soccer betting and casinos whenever I am in the vicinity of one.

For the longest time I thought I had the beast under control. Thought I was smarter than the pack, and shrewd enough to beat the pack. Considered my betting to be more of an investment than anything else.

How much hav I lost gambling? I am afraid to tally.

Has it ruined my life? Almost ... I guess being from a wealthy family, it helped me to cover the tracks not to mention the losses.

But enough is enough and I would like to kick the habit all together.

I am sorry if I sound a little cocky or arrogant ... I have a problem. And even now am half hearted to completely agree that I do have one.

Will I continue to gamble? I am not sure. I would like to stop, but it is just so easy with the Internet and all.

I guess if I was in NZ, I could join a group one a regular basis and get some help in person. But in Malaysia, how do I do that?

From reading some of the posts here, I share all the common symptoms.

It is a disease, and can destroy the best of people, not to mention families and loved ones a like.

What can I do? How can I help myself...î

Internet gambling is a very slippery slope. It can ruin your life and the life of your loved ones. So the next time Internet gambling knocks on your door, think twice.
